Air Conditioning Tips
If you want to demist your screen in winter easily and not stick to your seat in summer. Here are a few pointers to maintain your air conditioning system.
How Does It Work?
It works like your fridge at home, by cooling the air with a refrigerant gas, then circulating it through the car.
1. Wind Up Those Windows
On a nice day it is nice to have the wind blowing in your hair as you drive, but switch off the air con as it wastes fuel and coolant by pumping the cool air outside the car.
2. Recharge regularly
Just like other parts of the vehicle like oil, washers and engine coolants, they need to be monitored and topped up on a regular basis and the air conditioning system is no different. If it gets too low, it must be drained and re-filled. It is recommended to recharge every 2 years by the manufacturers, but double check by reading your owners handbook.
If your air conditioning coolant is depleting faster than expected, there could be a possible leak and it should be looked at. Give us a call for any advice as both the old and new coolants are harmful to the environment
At our garage our Air Conditioning service will check that it is not leaking, re-gas the system and lubricate the mechanical parts of it.
3. Keep it clean
Over time dust can increase creating a breeding ground for bacteria which begins to smell. Clean your car interior often by dusting and vacuuming to slow down the impact. If you are unable to get rid of the smell when it happens give us a call to book in for a service.
